L’abruzzo ti coglie di sorpresa. Non è la prima destinazione che ti viene in mente pensando all’Italia, eppure l’Abruzzo ha in se tutte le caratteristiche più belle ed entusiasmanti dell’Italia, dal mare alla montagna dai Borghi medioevali alle feste tradizionali.
L’Abruzzo è un campione delle esperienze e del paesaggio che trovi in Italia, con una bella sorpresa: un viaggio in Abruzzo costa in media la metà, proprio così la metà di qualsiasi altra destinazione, in Italia: qui è tutto molto più conveniente e con meno gente o turisti, sembra esotico. E anche per questo che la Cnn e altri media internazionali hanno definito l’Abruzzo la metà più hot d’Italia.
Io sono nato in questi luoghi, ma non li ho mai visitati e quello che segue è dunque il mio primo viaggio alla scoperta della mia terra: l’Abruzzo.

Grotte di Stiffe
La nostra prima meta in Abruzzo sono state le Grotte di Stiffe: un complesso di grotte carsiche formatesi più di 600000 anni fa che creano uno spettacolare mondo sotterraneo fatto di laghi neri, corsi d’acqua, rocce, stalattiti e stalagmiti che si scopre attraversando un percorso al confine tra realtà e fantasia di oltre 700 metri nel cuore della terra, ma strutturato così bene che possono prendervi parte anche i bambini piccoli.
Lago Sinizzo
Poco distante da questo mondo inaspettato, c’è un lago verde smeraldo circondato da boschi e salici, è il lago Sinizzo, dove si può andare a riposare. Noi abbiamo dormito sulla riva di questo lago, che ha una storia speciale.
Rocca Calascio
L’Abruzzo è la terra dei castelli medioevali, sembrano quelli dei film al cinema e alcuni lo sono per davvero. Il più famoso è Rocca Calascio.
All’interno del Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e dei Monti della Laga c’è questo castello diroccato, a quasi 1500 metri d’altezza, risalente all’undicesimo secolo che si raggiunge percorrendo un sentiero fatto di viuzze che salgono fino alla rocca.
Il castello aveva grande importanza dal momento che svettava sopra tutti i monti appenninici della regione, infatti è tra i più alti al mondo ed E’ il luogo dove fu girato il film Lady Hawke.
Sul sentiero che conduce alla rocca si incontra anche la chiesa di Santa Maria della Pietà costruita sul sito dove secondo la leggenda gli abitanti sconfissero i briganti.
